24/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – During the annual Human Rights Dialogue with Moldova on Wednesday, 23 September, European External Action Service representatives reiterated that “transparent, inclusive and credible elections remain key for democracy and the rule of law”. In an EEAS press release, they indicated that “in this regard [the European Union] underlined its expectations of the Moldovan authorities to ensure that the presidential elections on 1 November are conducted in full respect of these principles”. The EU stated “the importance of implementing the current electoral legal framework in such a way that ensures a level playing field among all electoral candidates”. It also urged Chișinău to fully proceed with the recommendations of the Venice Commission and the OSCE that have not yet been implemented and to adopt the corresponding legislative changes without further delay.
