Launch of second public consultation on future “green claims” regulation

27/08/2020 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 27 August, the European Commission opened the second phase of public consultation on its future proposal for a European regulation to require companies to substantiate their claims about the environmental footprint of their products and services using standardised quantification methods. Aimed at combating the multiplication of methods to measure and assess environmental impacts and the proliferation of labels and claims related to environmental information, this initiative aims to make green claims reliable, comparable and verifiable throughout the European Union and thus counter greenwashing practices. Contributions to the consultation can be sent to the Commission until 3 December. The roadmap for this initiative was published on 20 July (see EUROPE 12534/20).
