27/08/2020 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced, on Wednesday 26 August, that at their November meeting the Defence Ministers will have an initial threat assessment as part of the creation of the European Union's strategic compass. “In November, we will have the first assessment of the threats facing the EU. It will focus on crisis management, resilience, capability development and partnerships”, he explained at the end of the informal meeting of EU Defence Ministers. According to German Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, the information needed for this analysis must be submitted by September. Ministers had launched work on this threat analysis last June (see EUROPE 12507/9). The objective is to adopt the strategic compass in the first half of 2022. (CG)
