Spanish, Italian, Maltese and Portuguese ministers call for more substantial and coordinated European support for the sector

In a joint statement released on Thursday 2 July, four European ministers responsible for tourism called on the EU to provide a “common and coordinated” response to the crisis currently facing the sector, which has been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ministers, Maria Reyes Maroto Illera (Spain), Dario Franceschini (Italy), Julia Farrugia Portelli (Malta) and Rita Marques (Portugal), note that tourism accounts for more than 10% of the EU's GDP and is “one of our...
