EU Council endorses aid for rural development in light of Covid-19

On Wednesday 24 June, the EU Council of Ministers adopted by written procedure the regulation allowing Member States to provide support under rural development programmes to European farms affected by the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic (see EUROPE B12510A11).

The agreement between the European Parliament and the EU Council allows the maximum payment for individual farmers to be raised to €7000, compared to a figure of €5000 in the Commission's original proposal.
