EU denounces life sentence for Azimjan Askarov

13/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 13 May, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service denounced the confirmation by the Kyrgyz Supreme Court of the life sentence of “eminent human rights defender” Azimjan Askarov. He was initially sentenced to life imprisonment in September 2010 for “allegedly” organising mass riots and involvement in the murder of a police officer. The spokesperson called on Kyrgyzstan to implement the 2016 UN Human Rights Committee opinion...
