15/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 15 April the Commission and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) welcomed the fact that 12 young unaccompanied migrants had now been welcomed in Luxembourg, having been able to leave the camps on the Greek islands. Of Afghan and Syrian nationality, “they arrived in Luxembourg from Greece as part of a relocation. These are unaccompanied minors, aged 11 to 15, who were staying on the Greek islands of Lesbos, Samos and Chios”, explains the Luxembourg government in a statement. There are currently almost 5,000 minors in Greece, 1,600 of whom are on the Aegean islands. For Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, who is responsible for promoting the European way of life, “this is the first step in a wider movement of solidarity” that shows “Europe at its best”. (SP)
