Waste recovery organisations call for greater ambition from EU to avoid landfilling

On Wednesday 18 March, European organisations dealing with sustainable resource management welcomed the Circular Economy Action Plan 2.0 presented by the Commission (see EUROPE B12444A1), but are disappointed that it does not include new efforts to divert waste from landfills, when 175 million tonnes of waste are still landfilled in Europe each year and generate more than 140 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions, they stressed.
