25/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Regional Development Fund and the Cohesion Fund had an overall positive impact on major transport and environmental infrastructure projects between 2000 and 2013, according to two ex-post evaluations published by the Commission on Monday 24 February. However, the institution qualifies the results by explaining that only a "small number" of the projects "fully" achieved their initial objectives, either because the objectives were too ambitious or because of a lack of investment, it explains. Even when not all objectives had been achieved, the benefits to society outweigh the costs, according to the institution, which laments the numerous cost overruns (particularly in transport infrastructure) and delays in the various projects analysed. The institution also notes a problem with the financial sustainability of the projects financed in the transport sector. For more information: http://bit.ly/2PiWhOD (PH)
