25/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – An operation led by Belgium, with the assistance of 11 other Member States and coordinated by the European Union's law enforcement agency Europol, led to the dismantling of Amaq, one of the main propaganda organs of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS), announced on 25 November the Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office. A two-day attack by experts from these countries and Europol deactivated 26,000 accounts, sites and communication channels. A similar attempt to remove Amaq, described as the IS news agency, was carried out by police in 2018, but the terrorist group succeeded in restoring its communication medium, according to RTBF. This operation also led to the arrest, in the Canary Islands (Spain), of a man suspected of being the source of the spread of terrorist propaganda on the Internet. (SP)
