02/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – Member States' ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper I) and Members of the European Parliament's Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL) approved (53 votes in favour) without interinstitutional negotiations on Wednesday 2 October the proposal to amend the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to take emergency measures in the social sector in the event of a no-deal Brexit. As a reminder, the objective of the proposal is to amend Article 2 of the Regulation in order to support redundant and self-employed workers whose activity has ceased as a result of economic disturbances caused by the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union without agreement. The vote is scheduled for the week of 23 October, during Parliament's plenary session. Then, the EU Council should adopt it as soon as possible, before 31 October. (PH)
