Donors who participated last March in the Third Brussels Conference (Brussels III) ‘Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region’ are on track to meet their commitments, according to a progress report published on Monday 23 September by the European Union on behalf of the conference co-chairs (see EUROPE 12214/20).
For 2019, donors have already contributed 92% (US$6.4 billion) of the funding pledges to Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria itself.
For the period 2020 and beyond, 32% of the pledged contributions (US$752 million) are already available. Of the US$21 billion in loans pledged for 2019 and beyond, US$14.8 billion (71%) has been made available in countries hosting refugees.
At the Brussels III conference, the international community pledged US$7 billion (€6.2 billion) to support humanitarian, stabilisation and development activities in Syria and the region in 2019, and US$2.4 billion (€2.1 billion) for 2020 and beyond. In addition, international financial institutions and donors had announced US$21 billion (€18.5 billion) in loans for 2019 and beyond.
