Finance Watch deplores weak conditions imposed on EBA’s Adam Farkas’ as he leaves to join AFME

17/09/2019 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 17 September, Finance Watch sent a letter to the President of the European Banking Authority (EBA), José Manuel Campa, asking him not to allow his outgoing Executive Director, Adam Farkas, to join the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME). The Finance Watch letter came too late since, on the same day, the EBA announced that Mr Farkas' resignation would be effective on 31 January 2020 and that he may not personally lobby the EBA for two years, nor advise the AFME and its members on matters directly related to the EBA's work for 18 months. This was a very disappointing decision for Finance Watch, which believes that the direct transition of a senior banking supervisor to a lobbyist position for such a large organization should be subject to a cooling-off period of at least two to five years.
