Brazil declines €20 million offer from G7 to fight fires in Amazon

On the evening of Monday 26 August, on behalf of his country's sovereignty, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, dismissed the G7's proposal for at least $20 million (around €18 million) in emergency aid to help Brazil put out fires in the Amazon (see EUROPE B12313A5).

The G7's main achievement on the climate front (see EUROPE B12313A4) could therefore prove to be a complete waste of time, since the proposed support was conditional on Brazil's agreement.
