WWF urges EU to reduce its ecological footprint given early date of Earth Overshoot Day

‘Earth Overshoot Day’, the fateful date on which humanity is considered to have exhausted the Earth's annual budget of renewable resources, fell on Monday 29 July - the earliest date ever, WWF said on the same day.

According to the NGO, which calculates this date each year in cooperation with the Global Footprint Network, the cut-off has moved up by two months over the past 20 years. If EU consumption were the global norm, the Earth's annual budget would have been exhausted by May 10,...
