10/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – On 9 July, after 4 months without a meeting, the EU and UK negotiators on 'Brexit', Mr Barnier and Mr Barclay, met for one hour. Michel Barnier recalled that the EU remains committed to working towards an orderly withdrawal, with an agreement, which "remains the best way to protect citizens' rights", he said on Twitter. After ratification of the draft agreement, which will not be reopened, the EU will be "immediately" ready to "work towards an ambitious future relationship". The two men also discussed the issue of the Irish border and the "alternative arrangements" wanted by the United Kingdom, said Stephen Barclay. Recalling that his country will do everything in its power to protect the rights of EU citizens, the Minister also said that the two men had agreed "to continue the discussions". (SP)
