At a conference on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) in Bucharest on Thursday 28 March, Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Transport Policy, and Vazil Hudák, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, launched the 'Safer Transport Platform' and a new CEF Transport Blending Facility.
The purpose of the transport safety platform is to promote security as part of transport investment. It will also be used to provide technical and financial advice to stakeholders in the sector.
The mixed financing instrument, with an initial budget of €200 million, includes support for sustainable transport. The deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System is targeted in particular.
“To save lives on European roads, we need targeted investment in the right measures. The ‘Safer Transport Platform’ will help making sure that projects receive the necessary technical and financial advice, and eventually contribute to the reduction of road fatalities on our roads”, Bulc said in particular to comment on the launch of these tools.
