25/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The US State Department announced that the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, and the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Roland Kobia, met in Washington on 21 and 22 March to discuss the Afghan peace process. “The United States and the EU will their close coordination. They encourage all countries to support the current peace process, inclusive intra-Afghan talks, and lasting development and reconstruction in Afghanistan”, the statement said, adding that Khalilzad and Kobia had agreed that “the end of the war in Afghanistan and the achieving peace must be the key objective and that violence should cease”. In parallel, Mr Khalilzad and his Russian and Chinese counterparts, Zamir Kabulov, and Deng Xijun, also met to discuss the peace process. (CG)
