05/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – The truck drivers' unions, represented by the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF), signed a declaration on Wednesday 31 October in Vienna calling on the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union to take their concerns into account in the current negotiations on the social and market aspects of the first ‘mobility’ package (see EUROPE 12129, 12123). Among their demands, the unions want, in particular, that normal weekly rest periods (45 hours or more) spent in the vehicle be completely prohibited, that drivers be guaranteed the possibility of returning to their home country at least every three weeks or that exemption from the application of the posting rules be limited.
