During the second quarter of 2018, seasonally adjusted GDP grew by 0.4% in the Eurozone and the European Union compared to the first quarter, according to a flash estimate published by the statistical office of the EU (Eurostat) on Tuesday 14 August.
Of the countries for which data are available, the creation of wealth was greatest in Romania (+1.4%), Sweden and Slovakia (+1.0% each). It stood at +0.6% in Spain, +0.5% in Germany and +0.2% in France and Italy.
The equivalent information is unavailable for seven member states, including Greece.
During the first quarter of 2018, GDP grew at the same pace in both the Eurozone and the EU.
In June, the ECB adjusted its growth forecasts for 2018 in the Eurozone downwards slightly, to 2.1% of GDP, but kept its forecasts unchanged for 2019 in 2020, at 1.9% and 1.7% respectively (see EUROPE 12041). (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
