21/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 3 August, the European Commission allocated a further €3 million to Spain from the Internal Security Fund (ISF). The Western Mediterranean has become the main migration route from Africa to the European Union in 2018 (see EUROPE 12075). This additional support brings to €30 million the emergency funding awarded to Madrid since July and it will help cover the costs linked to the deployment of extra staff from the Guardia Civil. It comes on top of €691.7 million allocated to Spain under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the ISF national programme for 2014-2020. On Friday 10 August, the European Commission also granted €6 million to Bosnia-Herzegovina to facilitate the monitoring of its borders, as well as the management and identification of migrants wanting to reach the EU and finding themselves blocked on its territory.
