21/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – During the evening of Monday 20 August, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service stated the EU was ready to help India in the face of severe floods in the southern Indian state of Kerala. "We are ready to deploy assistance to help the country in the aftermath of this disaster that claimed so many lives, displaced tens of thousands of people, and caused severe damage to the infrastructure and crops", the spokesperson said in a press release. A violent monsoon has reportedly claimed over 410 lives, and left over a million people displaced, having destroyed 50,000 homes. "The European Union stands in full solidarity with India in this hour of need", the EEAS spokesperson added. (CG)
