26/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Thursday 26 July, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) welcomed the agreement reached between the President of the European Commission and the US President on future trade relations between the Union and US (see other article). Erik Jonnaert, the ACEA’s Secretary General stated “Yesterday’s agreement to initiate bilateral negotiations that seek to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade on industrial goods is a step in the right direction”. The stakes at play are crucial and the ACEA points out that the car trade between the EU and US currently accounts for 10% of total trade between the two regions. (PH)
