09/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 April, the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) sent a public letter to MEPs at the European Parliament's transport and employment committees, regarding the revision of regulation 561/2006 on lorry drivers' working and rest time (see EUROPE 11799). Although the first compromise amendments have been presented and MEPs are hoping to reach an agreement next month (see EUROPE 11996), the ETF has warned that it, “will not support any compromise to the core rules of driving and rest time”. In its letter, the ETF highlights what it considers are the two major points that it will be opposing: the possibility of a driver taking his rest time in the lorry cabin and the specific rules applicable to bus and coach drivers.
