09/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on Monday 9 April, three Greens/EFA MEPs – co-chair Ska Keller (Germany), Ernest Urtasun (Spain) and Florent Marcellesi (Spain) – along with the co-chair of the European Green Party, Monica Frassoni, strongly attack the position of the Spanish government on the Catalan issue. In particular, they criticise the decision to issue a European arrest warrant against the former president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, for "rebellion". This accusation is inappropriate, they say, because the Catalan leader did not use violence. The pre-trial detention of Catalan politicians is, furthermore a "disproportionate" measure.
