20/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Bulgarian Presidency is looking for a renewed negotiating mandate from the member states on the reform of the rules on audio-visual media services. It is expected to question national ambassadors at the meeting of the committee of permanent representatives (Coreper) on 21 March about how much room for manoeuvre it will have in the inter-institutional negotiations on 26 March. It will ask about the possibility of making platforms subject to the advertising rules that apply to traditional services (including product placement and sponsoring). The joint legislators would seem to be moving towards a financial contribution for the production of European works not only for on-demand video services but also for linear services. The seventh trialogue will have a significant impact on whether or not agreement can be reached under the Bulgarian Presidency, we have been told. (SPj)
