15/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is continuing its work of assessing additional measures submitted in writing by the nine countries (Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic and United Kingdom) threatened with referral to the courts for continued non-compliance with the EU directive on air quality. The first court referrals may be towards the end of April, the Commission says. It was to give its position in mid-March on the new commitments taken (see EUROPE 11961). In answer to questions on Thursday 15 March, a Commission spokesperson told EUROPE: “member state responses are being looked at very closely. Relevant decisions will be included in the next series of infringement proceedings. This means one can expect decisions towards the end of April, but not necessarily for all the countries”. (AN)
