Antonio Tajani ready to form government in Italy in event of victory for Forza Italia

On the evening of Thursday 1 March, the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, announced that he was prepared to serve Italy.

In response to calls from the leader of Forza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, Tajani said that he would only leave his post in the event of an election victory for the Christian Democrat party in the general elections of Sunday 4 March and if the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, asks him to form a government.
