11/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission’s high level multi-stakeholder platform on the exchange of best practice for implementation of the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the EU, met for the first time in Brussels on Wednesday 10 January, under the chairmanship of Frans Timmermans, Commission Vice-President. This platform brings together representatives of NGOs, industry, civil society, the European Commission of the Regions, and the European Economic and Social Committee, with the European Sustainable Development Network and international organisations as observers. It was the only concrete element contained in the Commission communication on implementation of the 17 SDGs (see EUROPE 11824, 11673). Last September, the NGOs showed signs of impatience, denouncing the lack of EU strategy for giving concrete substance to SDGs, more than two years after they had been adopted (see EUROPE 11869). (AN)
