EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Norway’s Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Soreide have decided to convene an extraordinary session of the international donor group for Palestine, the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC), on 31 January this year. This was announced by the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Wednesday 10 January.
“There is an urgent need to bring all parties together to discuss measures to speed up efforts that can underpin a negotiated two-state solution. Furthermore, it is necessary to enable the Palestinian Authority to execute full control over Gaza, based on the Cairo agreement from 12 October 2017” (see EUROPE 11883), an EEAS press release states.
Mogherini and Soreide spoke on the phone on Monday 8 January to discuss the situation, further to Jerusalem being recognised as the capital of Israel.
The extraordinary session of the AHLC, at ministerial level, will be held in Brussels. It will be hosted by the EU and chaired by Norway. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
