A public assessment of the EU's Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change is currently taking place. This strategy was adopted in 2013 and the consultation aims to gauge its effectiveness. The European Commission has called on the different parties, consisting of both citizens and organisations, to send in their points of view by 1 March. Their contributions will be taken into account when deciding whether a revision of this EU strategy is necessary and should be aligned to the Paris Climate Agreement (see EUROPE 11776).
It should be recalled that this universal agreement was concluded on 12 December 2015 and treats adaptation to climate change on an equal footing with greenhouse gas emission reduction. The EU adaptation strategy currently in force seeks to promote action by member states to guarantee robust action on climate change on an EU scale and a better informed decision-making process.
The public consultation is part of the strategy evaluation process that began in 2016 to assess the quality of implementation by the EU28 and the results that it has helped to obtain. Organisations that wish to participate in the consultation should first of all sign up to the transparency register: http://bit.ly/1CuGDml.
The answers provided by participants to the online questionnaire will be published. The questionnaire is accessible online at the Commission website (Directorate General Climate Action at: http://bit.ly/2AIZv3N ). (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
