09/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 January, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini spoke on the phone to the foreign ministers of Norway, Ine Eriksen Søreide, and of Jordan, Ayman Al Safadi, "as part of their ongoing engagement to support the resumption of the Middle East peace process towards a negotiated two-state solution". According to the European External Action Service, their discussions focused on the latest developments on the ground as well as the next steps in the engagement for peace. Following the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the EU announced increased engagement with the parties and partners in support of the resumption of direct negotiations. As a chair of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) for Palestine, Norway is the custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem. (CG)
