24/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Free Alliance (EFA), comprising 45 progressive nationalist, regionalist and autonomist parties, published details on Thursday 23 November on the launch of its campaign #freedomletters to back ten Catalan politicians imprisoned by the Spanish central government for implementing the rights of their people on voting and self-determination. The aim is a letter-writing campaign to support the ten Catalan detainees who, the EFA say, do not have the right to a fair trial by the Spanish state, pointing out that the court that will be ruling on them, the Audiencia Nacional, was created under the Franco regime to tackle drug-trafficking and terrorism. The EFA says that political activism does not fall under the remit of this court. (PH)
