20/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – The Italian Prime Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, has described as a “step forward” the position on the reform of the Dublin regulation (see EUROPE 11887) adopted by the civil liberties committee of the Parliament on Thursday 19 October. Amongst other things, this position includes an automatic and permanent relocation of asylum seekers to the other member states. What the committee voted through “is a very good contribution”. The “main thing is to change the principle of country of first entry”, he said, in the framework of the European summit. “We need more uniformity in asylum law and to share the responsibility for the right to be hosted”. On Thursday 19 October, the Twenty-Eight undertook to reach an agreement on this reform by May/June 2018, but at least there is a consensus between the member states. (SP with MB)
