First dialogue on regional security and counter-terrorism

On Thursday 19 October, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Social Security Federica Mogherini and Algeria's Foreign Affairs Minister Abdelkader Messahel chaired the launch of the first EU-Algeria high-level informal dialogue on regional security and counter-terrorism.

"Their discussions focused on regional challenges, particularly the situation in Libya and in the Sahel region, as well as on counter-terrorism", the European External Action Service said in a press release.  Underlining "the EU's determination to see the potential of security cooperation fully materialise" with Algeria, Mogherini stated that Algeria was "an important regional partner for the EU on security and counter-terrorism and the fight against radicalisation".  "That's why we want this informal twice-yearly high-level dialogue to be a platform for strengthening our cooperation", she added, as reported by the EEAS.

Mogherini and Messahel agreed to continue their collaboration and regular dialogue on these subjects, including for the purposes of implementing the Partnership priorities concluded by the EU and Algeria in March 2017.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
