02/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 2 October, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) underlined the EU's solidarity with the USA, following a terrorist attack at a music festival in Las Vegas that has reportedly claimed at least 58 lives and left several hundred wounded. The attack was carried out by an American in his sixties and has been claimed by so-called Islamic State. Describing the attack as "despicable", the EEAS spokesperson said that "at this time of sorrow, the EU stands shoulder to shoulder with the American people and authorities". The European Parliament meanwhile respected a minute's silence in tribute to the victims, while European Commission spokesperson Margaritis Schinas hailed the work of the "security forces, emergency services and all those who have helped the victims".
