France will vote against the European Commission proposal to renew the glyphosate licence, due to expire at the end of the year, for ten more years. This comes as no surprise (see EUROPE 11852) but, in formally confirming this decision on Monday 25 September, the prime minister’s office stated that ten years “is too long a period of time given the uncertainties that continue to surround this product”.
