Electricity industry fears massive extra costs resulting from CO2 emissions cap for capacity mechanisms

The polluting emissions cap of 550 grammes of CO² per kilowatt/hour proposed by the European Commission for subsidies to electricity companies for reserving capacity in order to guarantee security of supply will increase the cost of the energy transition for electricity companies by around €50 billion by 2040, according to a study published by EURELECTRIC, the association representing the European electricity industry, on Monday 25 September.
