In Frankfurt, Mario Draghi reiterates importance of supervising financial risks beyond traditional banking sector

Addressing the annual conference of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) in Frankfurt on Thursday 21 September, the Chair of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, laid emphasis on the surveillance of emerging risks from entities in the non-banking sector.

The financial system is constantly evolving.  “Since 2008, the assets of the non-bank financial sector in the euro area have roughly doubled and are now slightly larger than those of the banking sector”, he said.
