13/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission confirmed on Wednesday 13 September that the next round of Brexit negotiations, due to begin on Monday 18 September, will be postponed until Monday 25, as the UK Department for Exiting the EU had announced the previous day. “Both sides settled on the date after discussions between senior officials in recognition that more time for consultation would give negotiators the flexibility to make progress in the September round”, the British authorities stated. The delay has more to do with the British domestic political calendar: Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to deliver a major speech on Brexit on Thursday 21 September. The round after next is currently due to begin on 9 October. (SP)
