04/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Friday 1 September, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) indicated that it intended to introduce 50 new carcinogenic agents into the draft review of the directive on carcinogenic and mutagenic agents (directive 2004/37/EC) by 2020. The ETUC provided this information following the adoption of the inter-institutional compromise of the first revision of the said directive (see EUROPE 11851). Other reviews will be forthcoming. The second review is currently in negotiations between the co-legislators (see EUROPE 11700). A third review is expected to be presented by the Commission in January 2018. Recently, the Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, Marianne Thyssen, informed MEPs that it was planning on a fourth initiative before the end of its mandate (see EUROPE 11830). (PH)
