02/08/2017 (Agence Europe) – Transparency International (TI) called in a press release on 2 August for the European Commission to include car manufacturing giant Volkswagen on its “black list”, the Early Detection and Exclusion System (Regulation 2015/1929) that allows it to deny companies guilty of corruption or fraud access to EU funding. Referring to the conclusions delivered by OLAF (see EUROPE 11841), Carl Dolan, Director of Transparency International EU said: “If these reports are true, then a ban on securing EU funding would be a strong signal. … If the EU is to rise to global challenges like climate change, it must guard against funding self-defeating projects like this one”. The TI press release was published on the same day as a “diesel summit” on vehicle emissions, bringing together politicians and car makers, was held in Berlin. (LT)
