After the adoption by the US House of Representatives on Tuesday 24 July of draft legislation (that still has to be adopted by the Senate) providing for sanctions against Russia (as well as Iran and North Korea), which are potentially damaging to European interests in the energy sector, the European Commission confirmed its intention, on Wednesday 26 July, "to act appropriately within a matter of days" if EU concerns are not taken into account sufficiently.
