At the Agriculture Council in Brussels on Tuesday 18 July, the Czech delegation raised the issue of unjustified and discriminatory non-tariff barriers used by third-country partners against the EU and its member states (see EUROPE 11832).
The Czech Republic referred to practices such as: complicated certification systems, long procedures and import bans imposed for various reasons. It was supported by a number of delegations, including those of Ireland, Romania, Poland, Belgium, Germany and Slovenia.
The Czech Republic also encouraged the Commission to make every effort to prevent the application of discriminatory trade policy measures and unjustified trade barriers. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
