16/05/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament will discuss the negotiating mandate for the two German co-rapporteurs Petra Kammerevert (S&D) and Sabine Verheyen (EPP) regarding the rules for audiovisual media services. The political groups: ADLE, ECR, ELDD and the GUE/NGL – constituting more than 40 MEPs as required by article 74 of European Parliament regulations – have effectively called for this. The ALDE Group explained this rejection by way of its opposition to Parliament’s culture committee on the following points: extension of the scope to social media, child protection regarding content that has a negative impact, quotas for the promotion of European content, making the role of the European regulators group for A/V media services official, etc. The vote will therefore take place on Thursday 18 May.
