Not quite a brush-off but very nearly. After some 30 MEPs called on 24 March for it to protect citizens by not renewing the licence of glyphosate, a pesticide by Monsanto, (see EUROPE 11753), the European Commission has let it be known that, in its view, the opinion of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) that glyphosate is “probably not carcinogenic for humans” should not be called into question, and nor, indeed, should the EU regulations.
