10/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – A meeting of experts from the member states will be held at the beginning of this week to assess the consequences of the entry into force on Friday 7 April of the new Schengen rules introducing systematic control of all travellers, including Europeans, at the external borders of the Schengen area. The national authorities involved are concerned by the possibility of long queues being created with the introduction of these rules (see EUROPE 11764). The Commission announced this meeting on Monday 10 April but has not as yet set out a precise date. It also pointed out that national governments did have the possibility of introducing exceptions so that they can adapt to these new rules. (SP)
