10/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 9 April, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini condemned the terrorist attacks in Egypt the same day. "On one of the holiest days for Christians all over the world, Coptic churches in the Egyptian cities of Tanta and Alexandria have been attacked", Mogherini stated in a press release. "Those responsible for the attacks must be held accountable", she urged, saying that "worshippers, no matter what their belief is, should always be free to pray in peace". Mogherini reaffirmed the EU's solidarity with Egypt in the fight against terrorism. The two attacks, claimed by so-called Islamic State, have left 44 people dead and around a hundred wounded. Egypt's President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has announced a three-month state of emergency in response to the attacks. (CG)
