In the six weeks since European Commissioner for Agriculture Phil Hogan launched the consultation on modernising and simplifying the common agricultural policy (CAP), more than 25,000 submissions have been received from stakeholders, the Commission announced on Thursday 30 March (see EUROPE 11733 and 11717).
The consultation will run until 2 May, and the Commission will present a summary of the responses received on the future of the CAP on 7 July.
Alongside this, the Commission is currently gathering evidence about the performance of the CAP, focusing on many of the same issues covered in the public consultation.
These include its coherence with the Juncker Commission’s ten key priorities (including the CAP’s economic and social impact), its effectiveness in helping to manage risk and its environmental impact and wider compatibility with Europe’s commitment to tackle climate change and meet the sustainable development goals, the Commission says in a press release.
