22/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – Parliament's committee on culture and education is refusing to finance the new European Solidarity Corps at the expense of Erasmus+ or the "Europe for the Citizens" programme. This is the message its members sent to the European Commission in a resolution adopted on Wednesday 22 March, which will be presented with an oral question to the Commission at the April plenary. The text, by Petra Kammervert (S&D, Germany), calls for new specific legislation by May. She also calls for a clear distinction between volunteering activities and job advertisements in order to avoid abuse. The Solidarity Corps, which was proposed by the Commission in December 2016, aims to allow young people between the ages of 17 and 30 to get involved in all sorts of activities in the field of solidarity in areas such as education, health, hosting and integration of migrants.
